Graham Hughes will attempt to travel across 200 countries in the shortest possible time without flying.
WaterAid wishes filmmaker Graham Hughes bon voyage as he gets ready for his modern-day Odyssey and world record attempt – to travel across 200 countries in the shortest possible time without flying. The whole trip will be captured for an eight-part series by National Geographic.
As Graham travels non-stop for 12 months across five continents, he will also be filming himself and uploading his weekly video diaries to YouTube.
With a toilet seat strapped to his backpack, Graham hopes the trip will raise awareness of the global sanitation crisis as well as raise money for WaterAid and its projects. He aims to get his toilet seat signed by a senior official in each state and hopes it will act as a symbol of his mission.
Graham says: "The Odyssey is the culmination of a life-long passion for travel and filmmaking. It is an incredible challenge of endurance that will test me both mentally and physically to the limit. But more than that, I'm hoping to make the ultimate online travel adventure and I'm inviting the world along for the ride. All I ask in return is that they give whatever they can to WaterAid."
WaterAid's Chief Executive Barbara Frost says:
'We are delighted that Graham has decided to support WaterAid on his Odyssey. We hope that through his travels from country to country with his trusty toilet seat that he not only sets a new world record but also helps to raise awareness of the 2.5 billion people that don’t have a safe place to go to the toilet. Good luck and thanks Graham!'
